Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, is more than a restoration technique — it’s a philosophy. Rather than hiding cracks, it honors the history of an object, transforming its breaks into beautiful scars that tell the story of time, use, and imperfection. Kintsugi teaches that what is broken can become even more precious, that memory and transformation can coexist in one form.
In his work, Reza embraces this same spirit through his handmade pencils. Each pencil carries traces of the process — small marks, textures, and irregularities — that reflect the human touch behind its creation. When a piece is damaged or worn, Reza doesn’t discard it; instead, he repairs or reuses its parts, allowing the object’s memory to live on.
Just like Kintsugi, his approach respects the continuity of the object’s life. Every repair, every grain of wood, every metal mechanism tells a story — of craftsmanship, time, and transformation. In Reza’s hands, a pencil becomes more than a tool; it becomes a vessel of memory, a symbol of how beauty can emerge from imperfection and endurance.
